John Crawford
Director
John is a Chartered Accountant and Partner at Watson & Hegarty, where he leads valuation and advisory engagements for SMEs and family groups throughout Tasmania and interstate. His focus areas include business valuations (commercial and family-law), tax advisory (income tax, CGT, GST, FBT and state taxes), restructures and structuring, and pragmatic commercial advice for transaction, succession and dispute contexts.
John’s career spans national and Big Four environments before returning home to serve the Tasmanian business community. He began with WHK in 2005 (business services/tax), broadened into superannuation tax and valuation work in Sydney from 2007, and from 2010 managed insolvency/restructuring and valuation matters at Deloitte. He joined Watson & Hegarty in 2014 and became a Partner in 2018. His sector experience is broad—agriculture and rural enterprises, property development and real estate, engineering, transport and forestry, viticulture, medical and other professional practices, wholesale/retail and tourism—which helps him translate numbers into clear, commercially grounded recommendations.
In the community, John is Board Director & Treasurer at Welcome MRC (MRC North), supporting settlement and social-cohesion programs across Northern Tasmania. He also contributes to local committees and sporting organisations.
John’s style is calm, thorough and practical—he aims to remove jargon, map options with their tax and cash implications, and work seamlessly with clients’ lawyers, bankers and other advisers.
Away from the desk, John is a keen runner, youth basketball coach and wing-foiler, and is most at home outdoors with his wife and three kids—whether on the East Coast, on Ben Lomond in winter, or planning their next family trek.
